Navigation And View in Blender using Mouse and Keyboard

Happy to be back, MM friends, this time I will give a tutorial on how to navigate in Blender, as we know it is a graphic software, like other graphic software, we must be able to navigate or view the object that we are creating according to our wishes from any point of view.

Well, before we start, maybe some of you still don't know what a blender is but if you go to this article I'm sure you already understand what a blender is at least how to get and install it but it never hurts to learn more what a blender is from the link I provide below.

Article will be uploaded

Alright let's start now let's first open the blender app

As shown above when the blender application is first opened there will be a default cube, we will delete this cube and replace it with a mesh monkey because we will display objects from various points of view.

You can make it by clicking add in the left corner -> then click mesh and select the bottom monkey, you can see the image below.

We will make this mesh as a benchmark or point where the navigation takes place by selecting the mesh monkey and then clicking the del button ( . ) in numpad , if you don't have numpad you can use backslash ( / ) to isolate the object meaning you can only see the object that we selected, other objects will be hidden and will reappear if you click backslash ( / ) again.

Or you can modify which shortcut you should use by clicking

  • - first we look for the edit button in the left corner (Box1)
  • - then click the bottom button preferences (Box2)
  • - then we select the keymap (Box3)
  • - Next we make sure the blue name is selected (Box4)
  • - then we search and fill in Frame Selected (Box5)
  • - finally we can change the shortcut we want in the 3d view option (Box6)

Alright, let's just start if we have selected the Mesh as a point.

  • Orbit

We start from the first navigation which is orbit which means we can rotate around the point with the first way is to press the middle button of the mouse and drag it.

The second way is to use numpad to change the viewing angle by a certain distance using numpad 2,4 6,8 to move on the Z axis and numpad 9 to reverse the view

  • Numpad 2 = change view down
  • Numpad 8 = change view to top
  • Numpad 4 = change view to left
  • Numpad 6 = change view to the right
  • Numpad 9 = reverse view

  • Roll

The second navigation is Roll which rotates the view on the z-axis by 15 degrees

By using numpad 4 and 6 also shift key

  • Shift + numpad 4 = rotate the view on the z-axis to the left
  • Shift + numpad 6 = rotate the view on the z-axis to the right

  • Pan

the third navigation is Pan, pan in blender is to change the view without moving the object, so what moves is only the viewport, the same as orbit pan can also be used using the mouse and numpad.

The first way is to use the mouse just like orbit by pressing the middle mouse button and dragging but you have to hold down the shift key

Middle Mouse Button -> drag mouse -> pressing Shift

The second way is to use numpad and the control button by pressing it

  • CTRL +Numpad 2 = Move the view up
  • CTRL +Numpad 8 = Move the view down
  • CTRL +Numpad 4 = Move the view to the right
  • CTRL +Numpad 6 = Move the view to the left

  • Zoom

The fourth navigation is zoom In / Out by using zoom we can approach and move away from the object that we become the starting point without changing the size of the object. we can use zoom using mouse and numpad

The first way is to use the middle mouse button, we just need to scroll forward to get closer, scroll back to move away from the object

The second way is to use numpad using the numpad keys ( - ) and ( +)

  • Numpad - = to keep away from object
  • Numpad + = to get closer to the object

To get smoother zoom results, we can use Dolly zoom by pressing the shift and control keys together then the middle mouse button and dragging this will get smoother results than scrolling the mouse.

Alright, that's all. Tips this time, if you have any questions, please comment below, thank you for visiting, see you in the next tips.
