Have you ever downloaded a zip file that was shared by other people on the internet, for example a series of films where you only want to watch one episode without having to download the entire episode because the size is too large, but you can't because the file being shared is already in the form zip or rar.
If you have experienced the above problems, it means the same as me, I have looked for various ways on the internet but none of them fit, the closest to solving the problem above is to use extensions or apps that are on the google workplace marketplace like the image below
Like the picture above, Google offers an application that can open or view the contents of a rar or zipped file through a third party that offers its application via the above google platform.
But there is a lack of using the application, from what I have used for the 3 rar files that I have and I see the data usage wifi that the application must first download all the rar files that you want to process and if it is finished downloading and saving to the computer ( box1) then we can open the file.
Because basically this application is just an intermediary to open a zip file from a computer(box2) using a browser, if we don't have an offline application to open it like RAR or 7Zip.
- Google Drive For Desktop
Different from the way I found, this method will display all the files that we have on Google Drive directly on our computers without having to go through a third party, other files that we have we can also open other people's files that are shared to the public by using .
Google Drive For Desktop which is an application that syncs devices and the cloud like OneDrive from Microsoft which you can access directly from the file explorer, you can download this application by typing the keyword "Google Drive For Desktop" or via this link
For the download and installation process, you can read about it in my previous article via the link below
how to add google drive cloud to your file explorer in windows 10
Okay after you download and install the google drive application, you can see that google drive is already in file explorer(box1) and if you click my drive all the files contained in google drive(box2) are already there(Box3) like the picture below.
Okay, as seen above, all files (box3) are automatically read and can be opened by applications that can open the file, the same as the files on our computers, as well as our compressed files. All files on the computer are all in sync with the data in the Google Drive cloud.
Next we only need to open the existing compressed file using the file opener application, here I use 7Zip you can use another application that can open the file by selecting file(Box1) then double click or click open(box2) select the application you want.
As seen (box3) depending on the size of the file, the process of opening the compressed file will take time but you don't need to worry this process only downloads the file information in the compress such as size, name, file type, date etc. but it won't download everything like the example above, the file has a size of 3.8 GB and 26 files which are all videos but it only took me 30 seconds for the file to appear like the image below
This method is, of course, better than the example method I gave at the beginning, because it doesn't require us to download all the data in the compressed file to find out its contents.
If you want to download it you only need to select the file you want to download (Box1) then click extract (box2) a pop up will appear that can set where the file will be exported (box3)
The export process here is the same as downloading, the speed of the process depends on our internet connection. When finished, the file can be found and used in the folder that has been set.
Well, before finishing this tutorial, I will give a few tips so that the use of the above method runs smoothly that is
don't use this method to compress files which have lots of files use this method to see compress files which have 200 - 300 files in it.
Because I've opened a file that contains a lot of images, there are more than 1500 images in it, this takes time and also quite a lot of data, more than 70% of the data is downloaded from the total file size because the system downloads all the data about the image file one by one.
To avoid this, you should re-zip the photos into another category until there are less than 200 files, if you have similar files on your Google Drive.
Alright, here's the tutorial this time, hopefully it's useful, thanks for reading.
