This time I will give a tutorial on rendering objects by adding a Bokeh effect using the Defocus technique on the rendered image.
what is bokeh
Bokeh is a technique in photography that focuses on one object or several objects at a distance that is almost similar to each other with the camera that takes it, in other words we can create a bokeh effect on the front object by blurring the background or focusing on the back object by blurring the foreground.
In a blender we will try to replicate the bokeh effect by using Defocus, in this tutorial I will only create a background bokeh in other words focus on the front object as shown below
Alright, let's just start opening the blender application, in this tutorial I only use the basic object or mesh from blender or don't use a modified mesh with different colors in each object.
After the blender software is open, let's create some new objects and then add color to some of these objects
If the creation of your new project has been completed and is similar to the example image below with 4 objects behind the main object
After calculating the number and position of the object as you want, then we set the camera
Camera settings
After the scene is set as we want, then we set the camera so that we get the bokeh effect we want by selecting the camera object (box1) as shown below
Then we go to the properties editor and look for the camera icon (box2) or object data property until the display changes as above, this is where we will set the camera so that we get the desired bokeh effect, the required setting options are Depth of field (box3) and viewport display (box4)
We start from the first, which is setting the viewport display settings, this only makes it easier for us to find out the camera's focus point by clicking limit(box1).
until a guide line appears(box2) in 3d view as shown above the +(box3) sign is where the camera focus is now.
Next, we set the Depth of field setting, this is what determines how good the resulting bokeh effect is
We start with the first one, which is choosing which object to focus on by the camera by selecting it from the existing list (box1) or using an eyedropper (box2) and selecting the object that appears in the viewport after the object is selected you can see that the + sign of the guide line is located next to object(box3).
Alright, then you just need to set the aperture(box1) especially F-Stop(box2) to produce a blur effect by changing the value, the lower the value of F-Stop(box2), the more blurry the background behind it or other objects that are not selected.
Like the picture above, I set the F-stop to a value of 1(box3) after rendering the result looks like the image below
Alright, here's the tutorial this time, then you just need to experiment with the values in the aperture so that it produces an image with the bokeh effect you want and then renders it until it looks like the results below
